A normal-feeling 13-inch laptop you can fix and upgrade for a decade, and the compromises here are small.

It does not ask you to give up much

Unlike the 16-inch model, the Framework Laptop 13 is a reasonably thin, light, good-looking machine with a nice display and a solid keyboard. It feels like a regular ultraportable.

The payoff comes later

Year four is when it earns its keep: a dead port, a worn battery, a slow mainboard, all swappable, most with a screwdriver. If you keep laptops a long time, this is the one that pays you back.

Our score: 7.5 / 10 The mission is real The Framework Laptop 16 is a statement you can hold: a 16-inch machine where the GPU module, the ports, the keyboard, the RAM and the storage are all user-swappable. In four years, a dead port or a tired battery is a five-minute fix, not a landfill event. What modularity costs It is thicker, heavier and shorter-lived on battery than a MacBook Pro or an XPS. The modular input deck can flex slightly. This is the price of the design, and whether it is worth it depends entirely on how long you keep laptops and how much you value the right to repair. The most capable zoom camera on any phone, in a package that is genuinely hard to buy in the West. The 1-inch main sensor handles everything else with room to spare. The practical problems The camera island is enormous. HyperOS ships with bloat you will spend an evening removing. And official availability outside Asia and parts of Europe is poor, with band support to match, for many buyers this is an import, with all the caveats that carries. For long-range and low-light telephoto, plus astrophotography, it is right at the top of the class, and Vivo sells it more widely across Europe and Asia than Xiaomi manages with the equivalent Ultra. The caveats Funtouch OS is busy, US availability is effectively nil, and the phone is large and heavy. If those are not dealbreakers, the camera is superb.
